Directions to Furman's Cleveland Observatory
The
Furman Observatory
is located approx. 1 mile east of the junction of US 276 and US 11
(Scenic Hwy). From Greenville proceed up US 276 to the junction w/US
11 or via US 25 and get on US 11 and proceed west approx 2 miles.
From Pickens/Anderson/Occonee proceed to US 11 by best means from
your location and drive east to the junction with US 276 and then
another 1/2 mile. From Spartanburg proceed to US 11 by best means
from your location and drive west to junction with US 25 and then
approx another 2 miles.
There is a park,
Pleasant Ridge County Park
1/4 mile from the entrance to the observatory. The entrance road is
on the northern side of the road (on the Left coming from US 276, on
the Right coming from US 25). It is a gated gravel driveway with a
clear cut area to the left of the driveway. Proceed through the gate
approx 1/2 mile to the observatory. There is a parking area below
the observatory for those who can't drive steep hill leading to the
observatory. On the right hand side of the observatory is an open
grass landing strip where telescopes can be set up.
